[Thinkpad] (Un)reasonable memory

I bought a piece of PC100 256MB memory for my 600X from Compgeeks.com for
a pretty cheap price. It turns out the memory I got matched the picture
exactly, had eight RAM chips, and of course didn't work at all in my
machine.

When the part is in the 600X, in either slot, it will power up, and the
indicator LEDs all turn on, then off, just as they normally would, the LCD
backlight turns on, the fan turns on then off, and the machine does
nothing else.

I have requested an RMA for return of the part, and I expect I will be
charged a 15% restock fee. Yay.

So, here are some prices I'm finding for LOW density PC100 256MB 144 pin
SODIMM memory all in USD:

comtread.com: 105
memorysuppliers: 95
oempcworld: 100
crucial: 114
buy.com: several, down to 87 or so

and on eBay, used parts go for $45 to $99.

Chris
