The longest I ever waited was for an X20 screen. That was two weeks.
No way on earth it takes 6 months to get a screen, they could build the
factory in that time.
I think you may have mis-understood. Generally on parts hold they don't even
have an ETA for a day or so, by which time the part is in.
Worst case, take the XGA screen and use it until the part comes in.
Everything will run properly on XGA. But do clarify the backorder status,
something is not Kosher about that. Perhaps you mis-understood.
