[Thinkpad] Mic input plug

I have both a T770 and a T22 with the same problem

I'm trying to use an audio spectrum analysis program with an
external microphone. I haven't found any menu or control panel
item to disable the internal mic, so I'm assuming it is done
automatically when a mic plug is put into the mic jack.

So far, this isn't happening. I've used several different 1/8"
mono plugs from different sources, thinking there might be some
small dimensioning difference between them. I continue to get
pickup via the internal mic, and only intermittent pickup via the
external mic, as if it is just barely making contact inside the jack.

Does anyone know if IBM uses some special mic connector that
is an odd size?
