Update:
Another call to IBM and things were apparently back to "we can't find anyone who knows about your case, the person you were dealing with is gone for the weekend (as of 2:45pm), and all we know is the machine is still on hold and still no part and no ETA."
I got through to the corporate complaint line (thanks 100% to this list, otherwise it would have been impossible), and someone there is looking into it. As far as he can see, what I was told today about the part being available and the repair happening today or tomorrow can NOT be confirmed, and that I will need to wait until Monday (day 11) for further updates.
I'll let the list know how that goes on Monday.
