[Thinkpad] Epson 5400CX INSISTS on being default printer

I picked up an Epson 5400CX standalone all in one unit. It is installed on a
600E in another room, and networked.
When I installed it on my X22, it insists on being the default printer. No
matter how many times I change it back to the HP 6L, which is on a
printserver, it just goes defauts back to the Epson after a re-boot,
I finally uninstalled the Epson.
I took all the resident status monitor things out of startup, but it would
still run the monitor anyway (until I uninstalled).
Anyone know a registry tweak to stop this behavior?
I don't want the Epson as the default printer because it is not on all the
time, and the HP is and I use it for envelopes and labels (on a stand alone
print server).
