I had problems with my Canon Multipass 3000.
It wouldn't work without the Canon "desktop print manager" and I was
reluctant to give up the RAM for a bunch of features I didn't need
(especially since the Solid State 560x is short on RAM and "disk" space).
I also wanted to use it with a Mac Powerbook through an ethernet print
server.
I found the answer courtesy of a Linux group, it turns out that there is
a key sequence that puts the printer into "DOS Print" mode where it
thinks it's a Canon BJC4200 (which I have simple drivers for).
When I need any of the advanced features (twice a year) I can switch out
of DOS Print mode and load the desktop print manager.
Perhaps some Linux geek might have the answer for your printer.
