Hi:
I'm relatively new to the list, but have been a
regular reader ever since I bought my 240 off ebay.
Big thanks to the members who participated in the "240
memory compatablity" threads. It helped me find a
256mb SODIMM that worked in my 240.
I registered because I have successfully overclocked
my 240 from 300mhz to 450mhz, as per instructions at:
http://monkung.hp.infoseek.co.jp/tp240/cup/cpu_450d.htm
Bus speed is now 100mhz, at first I thought the
onboard ram would have problems at 100mhz, but it
turns out they are 100mhz mitsubishi chips even
thought they are run at 66mhz stock. All in all, the
system is much peppier and with 320mb of ram runs
winxp very smoothly.
Just wanted to tell the group in case anyone else had
doubts about whether overclocking the 240 works.
Kei
P.S. I remember a thread where someone removed the on
board ram for the 240X to prepare for a 256mb SODIMM
and had problems, turns out the 4 chips visible
underneath the keyboard aren't the only chips, there
are also 4 more chips on the back side of the system
board, so if those are also removed, the trick would
probably work.
