[Thinkpad] THINKPAD SOUND PROBLEM

Dear Stderr.Org.,

First of all I want to thank you.I have new problem,

I bought a TP R40e 2684HTG that I'm having a sound problem with. One
channel (left) refuses to work. The correct drivers are installed, and the
balance is centered. I swapped another keyboard (with speakers etc) and this
didn't correct the problem. The BIOS diagnostic tests says all is ok. Since
the speaker cable (the flat one) plugs into the sub-card could it be bad?
What exactly happens when a sub-card dies? Any thoughts would be
appreciated...I'm pulling my hair out on this one, thanks!
