I hate to be a party pooper, but....
The 600X still has the same crappy NeoMagic video card - no 3d, and not the best DVD playback.
While the keyboard is nice, the fact is that the T2X series has exactly the same footprint!
A T2X can be quite easily and quickly upgraded to 1 gig, without disassembly. It can take more memory.
The other problem is that the X was never made in the quantities of the earlier 600 series or the T series, and as a result system boards are quite expensive and hard to find - in fact, I had one in the shop over two months and went thru 3 used boards until I finally found a good one and was able to return it to the customer.
And the bottom case is unique, not too easy to find a replacement.
the 600X is a legendary bad buy to me. For the same money as Ed is asking, you can find a T23 or maybe even a refurbed T30 if you look really hard. Not a hard choice!

Subject: [Thinkpad] On T&A and X-ratings
After reading first Ed's delicious description of the TP600Xs he is currently offering for
sale, and then the thread provoked by Jason's questions (triggered by his recent
A-lugging) about the relative advantages of the X series versus the T series, I'd like to
solicit some comparisons -- subjective at least as welcome as objective -- of the 600X
with the Ts and Xs.
Without my ever having seen one, the 600X has taken on near-mythical stature in my mind
due to numerous favorable (dare I say "loving"?) comments here, especially by several
members whose opinions I hold in high regard. Of course, faster processors and other
technological advances have zipped other models past the 600X, but I love to hear some
personal thoughts about things such as:
Were there any notable features of the 600X that IBM had the good sense to transplant to
one or more of the newer lines?
How about good stuff from the 600X that got lost in the shuffle of the newer models?
Anything unique to the 600X that will be forever mourned by its admirers?
I'm interested not only in function-type things but also in less-tangible,
know-it-when-I-see-it qualities such as ergonomic relationships, keyboard and carrying
feel, viewing satisfaction, build quality, trouble/ease of use, pride of ownership, etc.
Deanna
