As far as the new ones, I believe it's just functionality issues - one
is smaller, not as
much expandability, one more versatile. I don't think I'll be
upgrading from my T23 for
a while - the Ultranav looks too frustrating. Can it be turned off?

Ultranav (on T40, anyway) can be turned off and adjusted to however you need it... for example having the touchpad only do scrolling... etc..
