Thanks but sadly, neither of these suggestions fixed the problem. Anyone
else got any ideas?

This is a pure shot in the dark, considering that I don't
have Windows XP or Access Connections, but this won't hurt anything if I'm
wrong...

Take a look around for a log file associated with Access
Connections; if you find one, rename it. Or (and?) see if there is any
option within the Access Connections program to disable any logging that may
currently be enabled.

Then try running it again to see if the error still appears.

                You might try this,

For the moment, disable SP2's Firewall completely, as well
as any other firewall/internet security program you may have. Disable
Auto-Protect on your AV for these tests as well.

Under Computer Management, Services, QConsvc. Change setting
to Automatic if the current setting is Manual or Disabled. If the service
wasn't running, start it now.

Run regedit, look at your startup files in HKLM, software,
ms, windows, current version, run and see if the QCtray.exe program is
listed. It should be there.

Start AC but you don't have to try to connect to any
profiled setting. Look at the configuration screens for each profile and be
sure the correct LAN adapter is selected. Set up a test profile and save it
but don't switch to it.

Under AC Location Switching settings, remove all "automatic"
switching.
Under Global Settings, be sure all users are allowed to
change profiles.

Reboot and see if AC can now get the connection enabled
consistently.
