[Thinkpad] TP 600X

I am the proud owner of a new (to me) pristine 600X.

Everything said about the most excellent keyboard is correct.

As I go about building a W2K system on it, two things come to
mind I thought I'd share with the list.

First, the Keyboard, the keyboard, the keyboard! is first rate
and about a zillion percent improved from my TP760XL and CD
keyboard. :-)

Second, I sorta miss the old easy access modular drive from the
760 series via a lift up keyboard, but no real complaint.

Third, do NOT ever go online without a firewall, preferably a router
in addition.

After leaving the W2K SP4 34 mb download going after going to bed,
I awoke to find some nonesense about a buffer overrun and the need
to contact some oddball site called www patchnet com, or somesuch.
The popupss associated were a pain to kill. I assumed the unit had
been compromised.

So I reformatted and reinstalled and added a firewall first thing, before
trying again tonight.

Fourth, W2K goes on a 600X smooth as silk and honey. It's as if they
were made for one another. I don't much like XP/XP office; it always
thinks to do
something I don't want and then I have to find out how to turn that off.
A real nuisance. And also a great example of bloatware. I will prolly
acquire
a spare drive and install OS/2 WARP 4 on it as it is only a matter of time
before the windows system crashes, based on my experience harkening back to
the days of Windows and Windows for Workgroups. Warp never failed, not
one time.

So, there ya go! Two points plus two more! Hooray for the 600X!

ps. If anyone has a TP760XL shell for sell let me know. My 760XL display
is becoming a bit wavey, and the keyboard needs replacing. I doubt the
parts by themselves would be cost justifiable, but am thinking of moving
into a good shell and using my drives, etc. Might make a great Christmas
present for my niece.
