Re-boot with the card in place.
Make sure you have the proper controllers www.ibm.com

  I just got a thinkpad 560z off of ebay, but, the unit isn't detecting
  any PCMCIA card I put in it, which is really annoying and makes the
  laptop virtually useless (no network). The pcmcia check in the bios
  says its ok, and its being detected in windows, without any issues,
  and i've tried re-installing it, but, it just NEVER seems to notice
  any PCMCIA cards.

  Is the pcmcia card reader burn out? Is the part replacable with a
  spare i could get from a 560x? Or is the issue related to the
  motherboard, and therefore not fixable.
