[Thinkpad] Fwd: lcd problem a21e

Hi, recetly i got a thinkpad a21e and think its a savage little
machine but as i was ripping a cd, i closed the lid and the machine
went into hibernation/sleep not quite sure. However when i did this
the lcd brightness just went to zero and it can't be adjusted.

the strange thing is at startup, and if you press and release the
small button which tells the laptop the lcd is closed, then the
brightness comes back perfectly but only for a few seconds.

i tried slowly lifting the button to see if it has a "sweet point" but it doesnt
also i changed the power management settings so the laptop does othing
when the lcd is closed so it has to be a problem elsewhere.....

who knew that the foo fighters could have such an effect on a laptop

any help would be muchly appreciated
