I tried to upgrade a 300PE MHz PII 600E to 400MHz and had the exact
same thing. It appeared to lock up when moved. I replaced the keyboard,
and the sub card, but nothing helped. Putting back the old CPU worked.
It probably has nothing to do with your setup, except for having the
same symptoms. Heck, I'm an electrical engineer, and I can't imagine
how the two could be related.
Maybe your system is on the edge of reliability for some reason,
maybe thermal. Did you clean the air vents while it was apart?
You might also have a hairline fracture on a circuit board that
opens when the board flexes in just the wrong way. That's so hard
to diagnose that nobody does it. They just replace boards until the
symptom goes away.
Best of luck with your issue.
