[Thinkpad] Wireless questions on spec'ing new TP

Greetings and Happy New year everyone!

When customizing a TP at the lenny site, when WIFI is chosen, the following
accessory is listed as an option:

ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter

"Help me decided" says: "...automatically searches for the best WLAN
connection. It helps provide connection flexibility and..."

Is this desireable addon, what's the real advantage/disadvantage?
