That resolution isn't a 'typical' one, so it's not a given. Your best
bet for determining exactly what resolutions are supported is to
identify the graphics chipset (like ATI Mobility Radeon 9000) in the TP
model you're interested in and then go to the manufacturer's web site
(ATI, Nvidia, etc.) to examine the specs. You may ultimately need to
update the video driver to a manufacturer-supplied one instead of the
IBM-supplied one, but at least you'll know what is possible.

Obviously another limiting factor is the monitor. Any LCD monitor will
have one specific resolution that it will support. They can display
other resolutions that are smaller (on reduced screen area) or larger
(by panning), but neither option is optimal. If your external monitor
is a CRT then it is more flexible.
