Indeed the 380/385 series does not support cardbus -- 16 bit cards only.
One that works fine in my 385XD is a Linksys model EC2T. These may be hard
to find now -- I would look on eBay.
If you are thinking of going wireless, the Linksys wireless "B" model
WPC-11 is widely available for almost nothing and works fine -- I have one
installed in my old 385XD now.
Curiously, the TP 997 port replicator adds cardbus capability to the
380/385 series. Most unusual for IBM.
