That is odd behaviour. My notebook demands the pairing code (0000) for
phones and headsets but both of those classes only require acceptance of
the connection attempt/request. But for phone to headset, the phone asks
for the code and again the headset just accepts the connection offer.
Is it possible your T41p is mistaking the phone for another kind of
equipment? When you see the phone's icon in "my Bluetooth Places" and
right click for properties, it is shown as Type: Cellular Phone?
