Not sure exactly what you would like to boot to, and what utilities you will
need to access, though you should keep in mind that most OS cd's are
bootable, bypassing any installed drivers you already have on the drive.
A Knoppix cd will provide a live OS running from a bootable cd.
A boot diskette, i.e Win 98, won't really give you much to work with.
PEBuilder cd's will boot to a live XP OS, running from the CD.
Windows (if that's what you have installed) can also boot into Safe Mode,
for diagnostics and the like.
IBM has a downloadable diagnostics cd image that you can burn and use called
PC-Doctor.

Lotsa choices.
