i was going through the university computer preparation procedure, and
part of it suggested upgrading the IBM software. The new ThinkVantage
Access Connections
behaved very strangely, conflicted with the microsoft version of the
network controls, and particularly strangely took away the ability
to hot-switch users and get the multi-user login screen. i ended up
uninstalling it completely, and was much happier. the machine was an X31.
