Can't speak to that directly, but I'd'a thought that dunking a drive in the ocean (or similar) for a few hours should do it. Surely the air holes will allow enough water in? If not, maybe loosening a few screws first? Haven't tried this, but always wondered at the "drilling" methods simply 'cause they do indeed sound labor-intensive.
