I thought as part of the Debian installation process it asks you for
details of your display adapter and screen resolution so that it can
prepare X-Windows automatically. I guess that could depend on the
options chosen during setup. Anyway, if the X components were installed
but the system just didn't launch into X automatically then you could
try typing 'startx' at the command prompt (probably as root). If no X
components were installed then you'd need to install them. Search for
info on the 'apt-get' command to learn how to use it and install X stuff.
