This is the first thing to try.
By the way, if he is happy with Knoppix then another obvious solution is
to just run Knoppix. I have Knoppix images on a couple of ThinkPads
(one as a FAT32 file, the other as an Ext2FS partition), as what is
sometimes called a "poor man's install," and just run them that way.
There is not much performance penalty, and it avoids all the fussiness
of boot managers etc. On the W98 machine I can switch to Knoppix by
just running a DOS batch file, on the W2K machine this doesn't work and
I need a boot disk, but still not a big hassle.
