Hi Bruce,

thanks for your e-mail. I have tried to do what your propose (to wipe the
MBR
and try to install an operating system) in two ways:

1) by using the tools in Knoppix. I have deleted completely the MRB and
I tried to install SuSE linux 10, but when it was going to partition the
disk
I got the following message: "Failure occurred during the following action:
Setting disk label of disk /dev/hda to msdos"

2) by using a windows boot disks and fixmbr and fixboot. After rewriting
the MBR I tried to install windows xp. The first part of the installation
goes
ok, it can format the hard drive (this it what it says) and copy over a
group
of files. Then, when the installer reboots the computer, there is no memory
at all I what was done and the installation proccess starts from scratch.

Any idea of what is going on?

Thanks,

Carlos.
