As no one has mentioned the following here goes.
Im a firm believer in using a boot manager.
If you go this route, you can leave what IBM installed as is,
then install what you want , and how you want it on the second boot
partition.
this way youve not destroyed whats there,
till your sure you like and what youve tested with time.
I do this method with my current Thinkpad where ive MS on one boot
partition, and linux on another.
What does everyone else think of this way?
