[Thinkpad] T41 Screen Issue - Dead Inverter Board?

I picked up a used T41 and it seems to have developed an issue with the screen. After about a minute, sometimes less, the screen shuts off. No light, nothing, just dead screen. If I plug it in to an external monitor, works without issue.
Any suggestions? I am thinking it may be the inverter board or cable, but did not want to spend the 100.00 to fix if it could be something else.
