I've had 2 Thinkpad do this to me (a T20 and a T23). Not sure if this
will help, but it caused the screen to come back on for another day or so:

Create a new hardware profile (right-click My Computer, select
Properties, select Hardware tab, bottom section of that tab).

Just *creating* a new hardware profile caused my T23's screen to come
back on (I had it connected to an external monitor). I left it that way
for about 8 hours until it flickered and went off again.

I know this isn't a permanent fix, but it seems strange that there is
such a common problem with the Thinkpad displays. For me, I know it
wasn't the LCD - I replace one on the T20, which worked for about 10
minutes.

Also, check to make sure the screen really is blank. With mine, you
could look VERY close and just barely make out images on the screen.

I'm curious if you are experiencing the exact same problem I had.
