[Thinkpad] Heads Up on T41p Display and USB2.0-Issues

Hi, this is just for information. Maybe some of you might find it helpful.

I had the following problems with my T41p:
- Dark spot on the display (SXGA+).
- Bad USB performance. External HDDs got detected as 2.0 but after a while
connection got lost and the drives got re-detected in low speed.

I had my TP sent in as it is still within the 3 years warranty. To be able
to work in the meantime, I sent it in without the internal HDD. Instead I
rented a T42p from a Thinkpad dealer and used my internal HDD with it. Well,
I had some initial problems but was able to work on the new Thinkpad with my
old drive although the hardware was different (UXGA-display, other WiFi-card
and so on. Only the macromedia apps I use demanded re-activation.

After ~10 days I got the thinkpad back. Support exchanged both the TFT as
well as the mainboard. Of course the dark spot is gone and - most important
to me - all 2.0 peripherals work fine again. No more connection losses or
slow USB 1.1 connections.

So if anybody is encountering USB2.0 problems I truly recommend looking for
potential HW problems and sending in the thinkpad instead of fiddling around
with XPs driver settings.

Martin
