Paul, Matt, Ray, Michael, Rob, et alia..

thanks for your inputs and suggestions. This is what I have before I
read your msgs:

-- Both HDDs are 7200 RPM.
-- ALL my partitions are NTFS .. except the IBM-Service which is FAT32.
-- My Swap File (should be in my D partition 4038MB.. sometimes reverts
to C) was now in C at 2048MB (2GB memory .. and all is available) .. and
now re-directed back to D.
-- Under Device Manager .. IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers .. have two
instances of "Primary IDE Channel", both reporting "Auto Detection" /
"DMA if available" / Ultra DMA Mode 5A .. for Device "0" and "1".
-- Norton has not reported any infections .. have weekly total scans,
and I am not aware of any new silent installs (BTW how does one hunt for
these?).

To test .. I started my AutoCAD and loaded a 19MB file ... took about
2.5 minutes, by my guesstimate up to twice as long as it should.
