Hello,
OOPS! Disregard my previous message about the virtual memory swap file.
I thought by VM you meant VMWare images (we use lots of them at work).
Does your system actually use most of the 4GB of swap space on disk volume D:?
If not, you might want to resize it to 2GB and grow the C: disk volume by 2GB.
This will give it more room for the temporary file and temporary Internet file
folders.
You could also try formatting the swap volume as FAT16 with 64KB clusters. FAT
file system performance under NT-derived operating systems (NT 4.0, 2000, XP,
et cetera) seems very good, and memory paging is typically done in 64KB pages,
so maybe this will provide better performance for the swap file.
One thing I have noted is that some anti-virus programs greatly slow down a
system when performing on-disk access scanning and the user runs an application
which creates a lot of temporary folders and/or files. You may wish to try
disconnecting your network connection (for safety purposes) and then
uninstalling
your anti-virus software and seeing if performance improves. Keep in mind that
some anti-virus programs don't install cleanly and you may have to download a
"manual uninstall" tool from the vendor's web site first to remove it from the
system, even if you did uninstall it using the vendor's uninstall applet or
through the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.
