[Thinkpad] Near dead T23

Hi

I've got a T23 2647 I bought used. It served me good for about a year but now it doesn't work anymore. When I press the power button, all the leds do their normal self test and then only the battery and 'on' led stay on, like normally. Also the fan starts and its speed goes up and down like a sinus wave. That's all that happens, Screen stays black.

I already took out everything but the cpu but it didn't help.
I don't have any other P III s available to replace mine or test it in another mainboard.

Did anyone ever have a problem like this? Is it the mainboard or the CPU? I don't want to spend 100€ for a new MB when it is still fine.
