Hello,

I tried out the Verizon EVDO service as my Z60T has the card
built-in. You can get PCMCIA EVDO cards.
http://www.evdoinfo.com/

So far I like it. It is expensive compared to wireline.
At home, office, and major metro areas with "broadband"
capability I get 500 to 800 kbps. I get about 80 to
100 kbps in areas with "dialup" capability.

I recently took a train trip from Boston to Flagstaff and
The coverage was alittle spotty. However cellular service
was just as bad. It worked very good when I was north of
Philly on another trip.

Both Verizon and Sprint offer EVDO service. There is a faster version
of EVDO in the works.
Both companies are expanding their coverage area every month or so.

The built-in card looks like a USB modem. It has an AT command
set interface and I was able to get it to work in Linux and
Windows.

As for a PDA, I have a Garmin iQue 3600 (Palm based) that I also use for
GPS navigation in a car.
