Hello,
Last month I took a train and car trip around Arizona. I wanted to power my Thinkpad in the car so I looked around for a AC/DC power adapter before the trip. I also wanted to charge and power other devices.
Unfortunely my Thinkpad Z60t uses a new power plug connected to a 90 watt adapter. I already have DC adapters for older Thinkpads. That is a great feature of the older Thinkpads, a 72 watt adapter can power my older thinkpads from the 365XD to the 600X.
I was looking at the iGO stuff for an unified charging solution. The problem was the tip for the Z60t was announced but not in stock. Of course it was in stock when I returned!
I got the Lenovo Combo AC/DC adapter for the trip. It worked out good. I did manage to blow the fuse and heat up the cable of a 3 outlet automotive dc power outlet box! It worked previously but this time the battery was low. The Adapter label mentions 10 amps of current for the DC power side and I suspect that it needs over 5 Amps while charging the battery.
I wanted to keep my new cellphone and my Garmin iQue 3600 PDA charged. I had a USB charge and sync cable for the iQue and got one from the LG cellphone. They are both Zip Linq cables so I keep them in my computer case. The Z60t has 3 USB ports, like many current laptops, so I used it as a portable charger. The Z60t was plugged into a AC outlet while I was using it on the train or at the hotel and ocassionally one or both portable devices were charging through the USB port as well.
I notice there are several 5 volt wall warts with a USB connector so you can charge a device through a USB cable. I have not tried them since it appears only one device can be charged.
73 Eric
