Thanks Paul (and thanks to the others who replied),
In the end I took it to a local service depot in Ottawa. They told me
that in the past, they've cleaned out notebooks and had them work for a
while, only to start failing again. So now they just automatically
replace the CPU fan.
Called Tuesday to book the service, dropped it off Wednesday morning,
picked it up last thing Friday afternoon. Warranty expires 2/07. :)
