In general terms the Bottom Line is:
A T30 uses a Pentium IV and the T4x uses the Pentium M. Although the
PIV is advertised to have higher speed (in GHz) than the Pentium M, the
Pentium M (an advanced version of the Pentium III) is more efficient
therefore faster and runs cooler and preserves battery power better.
The T30 is akin to the late 60's early 70's Mustangs. They took a very
nice laptop (the T23) and made it needlessly big and heavy; they were
inefficient (ran hot - not so good under battery power) but they were
still good performers. The T40 on up corrected all that. They were
lighter, thinner and overall better performers. They ran cooler and ran
long times under battery power. (I will not however analogize them to a
late 70' Mustang II however - except for maybe the lighter - smaller
part)
Other than that, they are pretty close in operating capability and
durability. (T30 vs. T40) There are greater differences as you move on
up to a T41, T42 and so on. A T30, in capability, is closer to a T40
than a T23.
My advice - skip the T30 and get the T4x.
Just an opinion (for what it is worth)
George

Subject: [Thinkpad] T30 vs. T40
What are the differences between the T30 and T40 (or T41, T42, etc.)?
