On the original drive they are not in an extended partition, just 3
separate primary partitions, one active. I can manually reproduce this
setup with Partition Manager (which has at least the functionality of
Partition Magic) by just copying the partitions over one by one, but I'm
still hoping for the no-babysit solution.

This didn't work. The console BSODs, complaining about the drive
structure.

I will try Acronis tonight; if that doesn't work, I'll have to try
something more drastic, like a backup/restore.
