> How are you mounting the second disk? Thinkpads appear to use some
odd geometries at times, and cloning via a USB enclosure causes
problems. In my experience it's necessary to use an internal 2nd HDD
adapter.
So far no go, but I didn't have much hope for my latest idea. (I have a
copy of the infamous Hiren's Boot CD, and thought I'd try some of the
tools on that, but I can only get it to see the drive over the built-in
USB1.1 port instead of the cardbus USB2 port, and I didn't want to hang
around while 40 gigs were transferred at 1.1 speeds. It *was* able to
let me rule out geometry problems - when I format the drive over the USB
adapter, remount it in the machine, then boot to Hiren's CD, the
programs there - which include Paragon, Acronis, etc - all say the drive
and formatting check out 100%.)
I don't know what "internal 2nd HDD adapter" would mean on a one-spindle
machine like the X30:-)
As I wrote before, I have no doubt I will get this drive to work, if
nothing else then through a backup/restore, but it has been
surprisingly resistant to standard tools compared to the many many disk
installs and migrations I've done in the past. - DR
