My particular bitch is when Gibson implies he can somehow access and deal
with hardware bad blocks when IMO they are mapped out and unavailable to
all software access by today's embedded disk controllers.

Restoring deleted files is different and that is something which really
can be performed by reading and writing to good sectors, so claims to do
that are possible. I don't know in particular if Spinrite is any better
or worse than other tools. I can't advise you because I've never done or
wanted to do that.
