I know we've had numerous postings about cleaning Thinkpads before, but the
hair dryer idea reminded me of another method of handling crumbs, dust and
other solid bits of stuff between keys or inside computer cases. I am often
guilty of snacking while using my computers, and the CPU for my desktop
tends to harbor dust bunnies in spite of its good ventilation, so I know
whereof I write!
Shop-Vac, believe it or not, has an adapter kit that will fit any vacuum
cleaner with a standard 2.5" (i.e. household size, not the larger commercial
Shop-Vacs) round nozzle. It contains a reducer that narrows to an opening of
perhaps .5", to which attach any of several nozzles. My favorite is about 4"
long, with a tiny brush at the end of a short section angled about 135°.
Attached to a portable vacuum cleaner, it is really handy for removing
particles gently and quite throughly. I paid full retail (almost unheard-of
in my life!) of $19.98 at a Home Depot or Wal-Mart, and, after several
years, still consider it a great investment.
