Most specs are identical, but there operational differences. According to
the information Hitachi sent us for our repair and reseller business, the E
on the model number refers to Enhanced Availability... meaning it is
designed for SATA units that are on all the time... but it also requires a
lower ambient temperature range... 40 degrees vs 55 degrees.

The E7K100 has a very slightly different interface rating... on SATA
connections.

For every Thinkpad use I can imagine, the 7K100 is a better choice, because
over time you will see differences in power up, due to those specs... which
are available on the Hitachi Sites.... www.hitachigst.com (main) and
www.hitachigst.com/vpp (Reseller Web site).
