[Thinkpad] X31 and X61 tablet: trade a CF for a 3rd USB...

Now I know there are _other_ improvements (like the very rare SXGA+ on a
12.1", the inertial sensors, the LV and generally newer processor and
board components presumably).

In my opinion though, what makes a higher end laptop is connectivity and
modularity. I am happy that my X31 has a PCMCIA slot, since I EVENTUALLY
found a PCMCIA Bluetooth extension card (Class 1, 2.0 EDR+, AD2P
supported) which sticks out only a couple of mm, and robust (from
www.zoom.com). WHAT IS THE USE OF STICKING-OUT USB EXTENSIONS ON A
LAPTOP?!!

:-)

I also have some questions on the X6* if some owner could be so kind to
help me:

- One of the things I appreciate on the X31 is the one hand/one move
removal of the battery. This even while working on a desk, with
Ethernet, power and external VGA connected. That's because the battery
is on the user side, you just have to lift it a bit and slide one hand
beneath, takes 2 sec once you get the move. Have done it on average 4
times a day for 4 full years, no problem! Still have almost 2 hours, on
it, in normal reading/typing use.

Now when I'm looking at this:

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3765

it looks like there are to sliders to take the battery out. Is that so?

Also, one of the annoying things on the X31 is that the rubber pads are
on the battery, not on the laptop (!) The X6* seems to solve the problem
only half :-)

Another annoying thing (but this must be the case for all manufacturers)
is that it seems impossible to know the chipset, profiles and integrated
Bluetooth specifications. Is that why there is an option to buy it
without, given that it is not a very mature technology? But then, isn't
an internal "daughter" card less power consuming and faster interface
than a PC card or other MINI PCI?

Also, does anyone know who has the patent on lateral sliding power key
(and until when) (Toshiba?), and what are the fundamental limitations to
a DVI (input & output) on a PC laptop (whatever meaning that still has).

Finally, does the digitizing function work also when the screen is in
normal position? And is the SXGA+ compatible with finger-touch (not very
clear in the tabook file). For my curiosity: what is the resolution of
the digitizing matrix? Is the Ultralight LED backlit LCDs an autonomy
asset, or it's just for weight (there is a line in wikipedia stating
that low power is not necessary a synonym). Any news for having
Ultralight SXGA+?

Thanks for any advice.

Adrian, SE France
