For a FIRST LEGO League tournament I'm involved with (www.firstlegoleague.org -- very cool if you have kids grades 4-8), we needed laptops. I dusted off a pair of 600Es from my back shelf, and despite not having been fired up in at least 4 years, both seem serviceable. One did need a CMOS battery, but that was easy enough.
Both batteries even seem to hold a charge, which will be good if someone kicks out a plug -- the world won't have to stop while we reboot/scandisk.
Pretty good for 8-year-old hardware, I'd say!
