You didn't mention what model of ThinkPad you're considering. I just got an
X60 Tablet and X61 Tablet. I didn't pay the extra $25/machine for two-day
shipping, just left the default of "ground" shipping.
I ordered the machines on Sunday 10/28. The configurator page showed 1-2
weeks for the X60 and 2-3 weeks for the X61. I avoided options that added to
the time estimate, such as the multi-burner for the X61 (with the
Ultrabase).
When I finalized the order, I got an estimated ship date of 11/22 for both
machines. On the morning of Monday 11/5, I got a shipping notification email
that said the tracking number would be available the next day. At 9:30 the
same morning, the DHL driver arrived with both machines.
Needless to say, I was pleased with the speed of delivery for these custom
machines, especially after hearing about some of the shipping delays they
had in recent months.

The AGN supports wireless-N for faster speeds if you have a compatible
router.

It wasn't an option on my machines one way or the other - do they offer that
configuration choice in the T series or something?

Definitely aftermarket!
