Had you bought a Seagate disk, you would have had a copy of Acronis for
free (though only the "full image" version, not the one that can do
incremental backups or browse images).

If you have the full version of Acronis, you can do incremental backups
with it.

If you have a drive failure, there is a good chance you will have to
first restore the drive using the TP recovery disks anyway - TPs often
seem to not like drives unless they are initially formatted from scratch
in the machine this way. After you do that, just run Acronis and copy
the latest image (or first image + incrementals) onto the drive, this
will include all Windows updates you made before the backup.

If you want to have a clean copy of your OS+updates but without apps
somewhere, google "slipstreaming" for instructions on how to do this.
One used to be able to use a great free program called Autopatcher to
install all updates at once unsupervised, but MS killed this software
(and the last version floating around the web is only current up to last
August).
