Why Does Apple Browsing Look Different from Windows Browsing?
How does your font display on your computer? . . .
Robert Rosen
If you use Safari and Internet Explorer or Fire Fox, you will
probably notice that the rendering of text looks different. Why is that?
It comes from two different philosophies in rendering. Apple, from its
background in publishing, believes the fonts displayed should match the
look of the font when printed. Microsoft believes the font should be
"tweaked" to fit within the pixel rendering of the monitor.
Joel Spolsky of Fog Creek Software has written a short article which
explains the differences with some examples which makes it crystal
clear. Read it at: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2007/06/12.html .
