I haven't tried it, but there's no reason to expect that cloning or
restoring a system like this would trigger product activation. After all,
there is no activation when you restore the system from the recovery discs,
and you can clone or backup and restore the preload with no activation. This
is no different from that.
It's not the same thing as using the key off the bottom of the machine at
all. That's a regular key that requires activation.
