[Thinkpad] new laptop specs - redux

- Much appreciate all the helpful information & opinions offered.

Wasn't meaning to imply that the sony would last longer than a year or so -
I've seen some held together with rubber bands.

The closest T61 I spec'ed out came to $1600, at the current promo pricing of
$300 off....

I'm not ready to hit the 2k mark for another laptop for use in the field, I
just need something for easy apps & thought the price was worth the gamble.

Thinking of winter, and knowing the laptop will spend some time in the truck
between service calls, I didn't want to risk my good Thinkpads......does
that sound odd?

An alternative would be to get new battery for my 600x, and probably a fresh
hard drive for reliability, and use that until it gives up the ghost. It's
just sitting around doing nothing.
I'd feel bad if it blew the LCD or such.....it's been a great workhorse.
