For my main laptop, I really like to have a trackpoint -- but if you don't
need that, there are some amazingly cheap Dells ($450), and I just got a
Fujitsu with half decent specs (1.5GHz core 2 duo, gigabit ethernet,
expresscard) for about $725 (it acts more as a small-form server than as a
mobile).
