No and no, is my experience.
Ive had at least a couple of hundred Thinkpads through my hands
and Ive never had a brokenwire to plug in socketfault.
Also to carefully cut open the moulded pvc to expose the solder
connections to remake it is dificult tho can be done.
Youve then also to re glue the cut parts together again.
Without seeing the breaks its impossible to be accurate as to the cause,
but for one person to have 3 out of 5 break, has to raise suspicions
about the users way of handling these virtually indestructible components.
As for any other laptop connectiors Ive had 2 where thewirehas failed
where it comes out of the switchmode power supply.
The ones that are HF welded together are a pain to open without damaging
the innards, also disassembling the moulded on grommet plus strain
relief is a pain but again can be done.
You will need to have and knowhow to use small scalpels to do this.
Other than that the only other failure has been where the cable has been
chewed through by household pets.
